How much does custom business software cost in South Africa?
"How much does it cost?" is the first question every business owner asks. The honest answer is: it depends — but here's what it depends on, so you can plan.

There's no single price for custom software, the same way there's no single price for "a building". A one-page website and a full operations platform are wildly different amounts of work. Anyone who quotes a firm number before understanding your business is guessing.
What you can do is understand the factors that move the price — so you can scope a build that fits your budget instead of being surprised by it.
What drives the cost
- Scope — how many features, roles, records, and workflows the system needs
- Complexity — simple forms and lists cost less than approvals, automation, and integrations
- Users and roles — more distinct roles and permissions means more to design and build
- Integrations — connecting to payments, email, or other systems adds work
- Data and migration — moving existing records in cleanly takes effort
- Design and polish — how much custom interface work you want
Ways to keep it affordable
A build doesn't have to be all-or-nothing. Common approaches:
- Start lean — build the one system that solves your biggest problem first
- Phase it — add departments, reports, and automation over time as budget allows
- Choose once-off where it fits — avoid a forced subscription for a system you could own
- Prioritise ruthlessly — pay for the features that earn their keep, skip the nice-to-haves for now
How scoping actually works
At Noko Mohoto Technologies, every build is scoped around your requirements and your budget during a planning step — you get a clear picture of what's being built and a timeline before any work starts. Once-off builds are available, and if you want certainty before committing, you can request a free preview of your system or website, built the way you want it, at no cost and no obligation.
